What Does the Writing on Tyres Mean?
The markings on the side of the tyre may look confusing at first but when you think that this simply code has the ability to categorise over 10,000 different tyres it is a great tool to understand. The markings will quickly let our team identify what tyre you need because it’s important that we choose the right tyre for your needs.
TYRE DIAGRAM
We’ve broken down the parts below:
205 – This is the width of the tyre in millimetres, it normally means the top three-quarters of the tyre. The bit that would make contact with the road.
50 – This is the height of the tyre, expressed as a percentage of the width. It’s often called the aspect ratio. A 50 series means that the height is 50% of the width of the tyre.
R – Implies the tyre is a Radial, Radial tyres are by far the most common especially when it comes to car tyres.
15 – This is the Rim diameter in inches.
82 – Load index, This is the amount of weight the tyre can support
H – Speed Index – This represents the Maximum Speed the tyre was intended to do. A H would be up to 210 km/hr.
