Bobcat Tyres
We understand your mind needs to be on the job, so let us worry about your tyres…
There are many things to consider when selecting the appropriate tyre for your bobcat. To get the best tyre for the application and bobcat being used we need to establish a few things first.
• What type of Bobcat – brand/model/size
• The application it’s being used for – industrial/agricultural etc.
This is important when selecting the right tyre because, no 2 bobcats are the same. Each one will be working a different environment and have a different workload.
So now you might be wondering, what is the difference between types of tyres and what environment is best for each?
Ok, so once we know the application of your bobcat and the type of bobcat you have we can decide upon which tyre is going to be most suitable. There are two main types of tyres that bobcats use, Solid and Pneumatic tyres.
Solid VS Pneumatic…
A solid tyre is as its name suggests, is a tyre that has been filled with rubber to create a solid rubber tyre. This type of tyre is particularly useful for working environments where punctures and slices in the tyre are common. A solid fill tyre due to having no air will not deflate, need pressure checking or burst and can keep working longer to minimise downtime for you.
Benefits of a solid tyre:
• Reduce downtime
• Elimination of puncture repairs/replacements
• Up to 3 times longer lifespan
• Carry a greater load capacity
• Increased resistance to chunking and cutting from debris.
In some harsh working conditions such as industrial yards and job sites, two to three punctures a week are quite common. By using a solid tyre the need to stop work due to downtime to have punctures repaired or replaced is completely eliminated. A solid tyre will keep working long after driving over a nail or suffering a slice.
Pneumatic tyres are more widely used where the bobcat is likely to experience uneven surfaces or rough terrain. A pneumatic tyre will provide a form of cushioning for your bobcat and the driver. This will reduce damage to the bobcat and driver fatigue.
Benefits of Pneumatic tyres:
• Increase the life of your bobcat
• More comfort for driver on rough surfaces
• Lightweight
• Increased stability on uneven surfaces.
• Generally less expensive than solid tyres.
Different ply ratings of both types are available and the ply rating necessary will depend on the individual application of the bobcat, hours of use, surface etc.
Various tread patterns are available to ensure the best tyre is supplied to suit the application. These tread patterns can include industrial and mining, off road, smooth and rib.
• The Industrial and mining tread patterns are a great general purpose tread ideally suited to industrial equipment operating in yards and warehouses.
• Off road tread patterns are ideal for bobcats operating on construction sites and rough yards
• Smooth patterns can be used in many applications where the surface is generally flat and free of potholes and slippery areas
• The rib pattern are mainly used for industrial trailers, light machinery and sweepers.
Why looking after your tyres is so important…
A poorly maintained tyre will severely affect both your bobcat and your business. Mistreated tyres can lead to downtime from punctures, bursts, damaged machines, injuries to employees and damaged loads.
But by taking a few simple steps to maintaining your tyres you can decrease downtime, increase the life of your bobcat, and avoid dropped loads and protect your drivers.
