Forklift Tyres
STOP wasting money on replacing forklift tyres and repairs. Find out why the right tyre will increase productivity and save you money!
What’s the forklift being used for?
No two working environments are ever the same, the first thing that needs to be addressed when finding the right tyres for your forklift is what application is it being used for? The wrong tyre being used on the wrong application is costly and dangerous.
There is a forklift tyre available for just about every application you can imagine, whether you need a tyre for working in a warehouse, non-marking, on gravel, off road, on concrete or on smooth surfaces there is a type of tyre specifically for your forklifts job. It is also very crucial that when asked by one of our tyre experts that you explain the type of forklift you have, each model requires a different size/type of tyre.
So now you might be wondering, what is the difference between types of tyres and what environment is best for each?
Ok, so once we know the application of your forklift and the type of forklift that you have we can decide upon which tyre is going to be most suitable. There are two main types of tyres that forklifts use, Solid and Pneumatic tyres.
Solid VS Pneumatic…
A solid tyre is as its name suggests, is a tyre that has been filled with rubber to create a solid rubber tyre. This type of tyre is particularly useful for working environments where punctures and slices in the tyre are common. A solid fill tyre due to having no air will not deflate, need pressure checking or burst and can keep working longer to minimise downtime for you.
Benefits of a solid tyre:
• Reduce downtime
• Elimination of puncture repairs/replacements
• Longer lifespan
• Carry a greater load capacity
In some harsh working conditions such as industrial yards and job sites two to three punctures a week are quite common. By using a solid tyre the need to stop work due to downtime to have punctures repaired or replaced is completely eliminated. A solid tyre will keep working long after driving over a nail or incurring a slice in the tyre.
Pneumatic tyres are more widely used where the forklift experiences uneven surfaces or rough terrain. A pneumatic tyre will provide a form of cushioning for the vehicle and also the driver. This will reduce damage to the forklift and reduce driver fatigue.
Benefits of Pneumatic tyres:
• Increase the life of the machine
• More comfort for driver on rough surfaces
• Lightweight
• Increased stability on uneven surfaces.
• Generally less expensive than solid tyres.
Different ply ratings of both types are available and the ply rating necessary will depend on the individual application of the machine, hours of use, surface etc.
