Passenger Vehicle Tyres

How a local family avoids an accident with an on the spot tyre inspection and pressure check!

We all know that we should be checking our tyres regularly, but how many of us are actually doing it? And do we fully understand the implications involved with under inflated tyres on passenger vehicles?

Under inflated tyres will increase the braking distance of your car and can be the difference between stopping in time and costing you and your loved ones their life. Not only are they dangerous but they are also costing you money as they have less fuel efficiency than a correctly inflated tyre.

A recent study has found that a shocking 71 per cent of women don’t check their tyre pressure levels often enough. A pretty alarming figure considering the dangers involved.

After dropping her kids at school last week local mum of 2 Anne Peters narrowly missed a group of children and levelled a stop sign when her tyres screeched down the road. Extremely shocked and worried she immediately drove to the Darra Tyres workshop to have her tyres assessed by one of our tyre experts.

Upon arrival Anne was greeted by owner Kevin Wood, Kevin has been in the tyre industry for over 40 years and has more knowledge and expertise than just about anyone in the industry. Kevin could see the problem was obvious but what is obvious to Kevin may not be to you.

He explained to Anne that the problem was due to under inflated tyres and a loss of tread on the inside of the tyres. Kevin pointed out that a recent study showed that 71% of women don’t check their tyre pressures regularly enough. Kevin explained that it is vital that at least once a month checks are carried out and that most people, let alone females are unaware that despite the tyres looking fine, the inside of the tyres were dangerously worn.

Under inflated tyres cause lack of control, poor handling and increased braking distances, exactly what Mrs Jones had just been through.

In less than 5 minutes Kevin had pumped up the tyres and suggested that new tyres may be needed because these tyres hadn’t been properly looked after. Proper tyre care is most importantly a safety measure, but it will also save you money and keep your tyres performing longer.

Kevin and the rest of the team at Darra Tyres are more than happy to check your families vehicle if you’re not sure or just don’t have the time.
